I recently went from XP -> 7 and as far as GW was concerned, a straight copy&paste of the whole folder was pretty much all there was to it as far as getting the game to run.

However, one of the problems that has come up is the game is pointing to C:\My Docu~\~ for the folder which should have the templates files; the game was originally installed on a spearate partition before and still is now, and the template folder 'should' be in the same directory as the other installed files (gw.exe, gw.dat, etc...). I've searched the registry for "guild", "arenanet", "gw.exe" but nothing that looks like it's referring to a C:\ path appears. I also can't find anything via the options or template manager ingame to change it.

Is there a way to change the directory path to something else other than my My Documents folder, without maybe attempting a clean install? I'd have thought info like this would be stored on the local machine rather than on their servers.

As far as I know, there is no way to change the directory that the game uses for templates. In Windows 7, I believe it is in the My Documents folder like you said. Instead, copy your templates to the location that the game specifies. You can view the path to the templates folder in game at either the "load templates" or "manage templates" window.

That's the way Win 7 treats ALL user files from whatever program. You'll get used to it - it makes a lot more sense than the old way.

The default location for user files is c:\Users\yournamehere\My Documents\

That way, on a system with multiple users (or, presumably, a network) - each program can save its user-specific files in that user's personal space, rather than over-writing the files in the program's directory. Which would be baaad. Trust me.

Right Click on Shortcut of gw.exe > Compitability > Check the Box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP SP3" Hit Apply and or Ok
